Value Stream Mapping for Manufacturers
Uncover waste and find out how to best streamline your manufacturing and office processes. Value stream mapping allows you to take a high-level view of your process or value stream — then diagnose problems and implement changes — so you can get lean and maximize your productivity.
Value stream basics
Value stream mapping is a four-step process that uncovers waste and reveals how to streamline your manufacturing and office processes. First, identify the value stream or process to map. Second, you make a current state map showing the current flow of materials and information needed to deliver a product or a service. Next, you diagnose problems, suggest changes, and make a future state map representing the improved process. Finally, you implement the changes.
Four Steps of VSM:
1
Value Identification
Identify the value stream or process to map
2
Map Current State
Make a current state map showing the current flow of materials and information needed to deliver a product or service
3
Diagnostics
Diagnose problems, suggest changes and make a future state map
4
Implementation
Implement changes
